BBL™ CHROMagar™ Orientation medium is a nonselective differentiated medium for the isolation, of urinary tract pathogens Escherichia coli, Enterococcus, Klebsiella-Enterobacter-Serratia (KES), Proteus-Morganella-Providencia (PMP). Results After proper incubation, the plates should show isolated colonies. Enterobacter cloacae appear dark blue to medium blue colonies, Enterococcus faecalis appear as blue-green colonies, E.coli appear dark rose to pink with or without halos, Proteus mirabilis appear beige to brown colonies, Staph. aureus appear white to cream color colonies, and Strep. Agalactiae appear light blue green to light blue colonies with or without halos. Principles Procedure 1. Inoculate CHROMagarTM Orientation plate with a dilution of the specimen. 2. Incubate plates aerobically at 35’C for not less than 20 to 24 hours. 3. Observe plates for characteristic colonial morphology and color at 20-24 hours.
